Important Notice about Snakes! Openings around crawl space doors and in crawl space vents can let wildlife into the crawl space and into your home. Mice, snakes, rats and squirrels often use these access points to enter. Do nothing, if that is okay with you. Or have Humane Homes reinforce these areas to keep critters out. Snake season is here. If you have mice getting under the house, they will attract snakes. Just sayin’. Don’t want ‘em? Fear not the crawl space. We will take care of it. Pictures are after and before shots of a crawl space door we rebuilt. We also reinforced 17 vents to make sure nothing is gettin’ in. We built an eve. The elements teamed up with some squirrels leading to its deterioration. The squirrels have found homes elsewhere. I saw them around. Complex access required two ladders and an uneven ground made it especially awkward.
And there was more: we cleaned up droppings from the attic and replaced insulation shredded by squirrels, and found a few exposed wires due to gnawing. All in a weeks work. Feeling so grateful and accomplished doing great work, for great people, for a great cause! It’s our our motto after all. Baby Squirrel!
Squirrels, Fireplaces and Chimneys! O My! Some town homes, apartments, and homes I have visited lately have squirrels that have moved into the top cap of the chimney. Some people will hear scratching noises sounding like they are coming from the fireplace. The sound of an animal on the chimney cap (made of metal) will often carry down the flue and be heard in the fire place. If you hear this activity more than a couple times call us and we can assess the situation. Squirrels will nest in the chimney, filling it nesting materials. This is obviously hazardous. Squirrels have been discovered in fireplaces, too, and sometimes do not make it out alive. We make sure the squirrels are out and install materials to keep them out. This way everyone is safe, squirrel free and scratch free! What’s in your chimney? What’s in your attic? What’s in your crawl space? We have a look and take care if it, creating reassurance and restoring serenity to your home. Check out the squirrel baby... Eric 919-337-5308 Humane Homes NC Exclude bats now, or forever hold your peace... well at least until August 1st.
According to the State of NC, bats cannot be excluded from May until August. If you had bats or know you do now and want humane harmonious and ecological options, call now so we can address it for August. Bats form maternity colonies staring in May. The pups (usually one per mother) suckle like all mammals. The mothers fly off at night leaving the babies behind. Any attempt to exclude during this time will trap the babies inside and the mothers outside. The mothers, as we can imagine, will do anything possible to get back in. The pups will frantically look for a way out. In these cases, or other cases where bats are trapped inside, they will find a way out and will often end up in the living space or sadly die within the walls. We offer free consultation and installation of bat boxes. Anyone who hires us to do an exclusion will get a free installation. You buy the box. We will install it. We also offer stand alone bat box consultation and installation at a modest fee. Love them, or hate them, let’s all be kind to the bats. Most eastern bat populations had plummeted due to habitat loss and an invasive fungus called white nose syndrome. Up to 90% of the population of the most common bat species have been lost in the eastern US! If you need them out, reach out. We can help with an initial assessment. We will create a plan to care for the bats, you and your home with the best solutions for all beings! Wow. Squirrels. Attics. Shredded insulation. Dangerously gnawed wires, droppings, holes in fascia, gutters, gutter guards, soffits and trim chewed open. Soffit eves, rain tables and roof returns are ESPECIALLY susceptible. Just because you do not see or hear squirrels in the attic does not mean they are not there. They can climb downspouts. So even if you have slippery vinyl siding and no trees within 15’ of the roof, they could still find a way in. Brick and stone facades are super easy for them to climb, too.
Oi! What a mess! And a danger. And a pain! I know. These precious and persistent beings are simply seeking warmth, shelter and comfort... like all beings do. Cannot blame them. All is not lost. There are solutions for harmony. Got Squirrels? Love them AND want them out? Not sure? Do you just want to have someone look in the attic? May all beings in all places be happy. All beings win at Humane Homes. Just and we will check it out. Om. Peace. Thank you for all your kindness support and business this year. 1000-fold blessings back to each of you! This week at Humane Homes Several months ago, we responded to a client in a town home community in Carrboro. We excluded bats, squirrels and raccoons. No animals were trapped, killed, or poisoned. And they will not be getting back in. Due to the damage done, the HOA decided to proactively install exclusion systems in all units to keep animals out of the attic, roof and crawl spaces. When we are done, all the buildings will have effective solutions in place that will not require future use of poisons or killing devices. Now that is truly Humane. What’s in your attic? Don’t know? Just call. Peace will return without casualties. 919-337-5308 Rodent Poisons Killing Hawks and Owls.
Wow! So sad. It's real. Mice or rats eat poison. Owl eats mouse or rat. Owl dies. Who else eats mice, rats? Dogs, cats, foxes, snakes... there's a huge upstream effect. The EPA, Audubon, Cornell University, Vet schools, and wildlife rehabs are observing, studying and reporting of this gruesome reality. Do what you can. Stop using poisons. I'm so grateful to our clients who have chosen our humane solutions. We don't use poisons. All solutions are kill-free. Life allowing. Thank you for choosing Human Homes. If you have mice or other critter problems just call. Here are two articles among way too many, citing the harm of these poisons. I couldn't read any more. It's way too painful and sad. Make a difference. Be humane. Anyone have personal experience with this tragedy? https://www.scientificamerican.com/…/super-toxic-rat-poisi…/ https://www.allaboutbirds.org/raptors-and-rat-poison/ This week and next week at Humane Homes
Wow. I'm overwhelmed and so grateful. Wonderful people and their families have come into my life. I've learned amazing lessons and been so blessed to hold so many experiences of bringing humane solutions to humane minded families and individuals. Wow. Wow. Wow. Oh right. This week and next week! It seems that baby raccoons are being born. Two new calls have come up for investigation. These coon families seem to have a propensity for roofs and attics. Someone told me I am a critter PI! LOL. That's one of the super cool things about this gig is that each situation is totally unique. I must use my brain. Ouch. Another client has requested an assessment to see what snakes are around and on her property. She has a few dogs and is concerned about copperheads. I am going to check things out and see what we can do to bring a sense of peace and safety for her and her pups. A client is moving from California. They bought a home that they have been sitting on for 6 months. Where they are from in Cali, they've told me, they don't have these critters all over the place. Welcome to the rural suburban region of NC! Drive a couple miles from town and it's COUNTRY! Helping these folks with a Move-in Critter assessment to see what might be getting in, how, and what we can do to exclude and prevent. And... one of my favorite clients has asked me to come back and do PHASE TWO of the critter exclusion work. Phase One was all interior repairs and trapping. Phase Two will secure the entire crawl space and screened patio leaving the space impermeable to The Uninvited! Wow. Wow. Wow. Thanks for tuning in. So much Love and Gratitude! Eric Happy People. Happy Homes. Happy Critters. What's in your attic? What's on your crawl space? Have no fear. Just call. We'll restore sanity and tranquility to your home. Did it just start, and then stop after a couple days?
You have company. Squirrels are scooping out the joint looking for a warm cozy place to have babies. It’s that time of year. Don’t Fear. Don’t Ignore it, or brush it off because it stopped. They were in there, are in there, or will be back. Flying squirrels are also actively attic hopping, too. Usually solitary, in the winter months Fliers form wintering colonies... IN YOUR ATTIC. And they are super cute, too and can soar up to 100’. Amazing nocturnal gliding creatures. Don’t know what is making that sound? Just call. We’ll sort it out and restore the peace. No Harm Solutions. Always. Peace. Hot Tub Demolition, Squirrels and Woodpeckers. What?
That’s what’s happening this week at Humane Homes. A squirrel led them to us. We took care of it. Then there was a lot of rotten woodwork and soffits to repair. It's all good, we have it covered. We can do that too. “How about this old hot tub?” we were asked. Sure. We got rid of the hot tub. Chopped it into pieces. And rebuild part of the deck were it was. And are rebuilding a rotten, damaged soffit (aka squirrel den) and reinforcing other soffit pockets to make sure these amazing tree crawlers do not get back in. We have skilled craftspeople and painters available to take care of the non-critter stuff (or critter related damage). All in a week? Sure. All at Humane Homes. Yep Got squirrels? Got Snakes? Got Hot Tubs? Just call. We will get them all gone. Eric 919-337-5308 |
